Erection and softness after orgasm

I used to be able to stay at least firm for another 10-15 minutes. (in my 20s)
Now (in my 60s) I go completely soft before the O is done.

I doubt that I could re-enter her vagina after orgasm. I often stay in her after orgasm, but that gets messy after about a minute, so she prefers that I pull out. Three children ago, she used to enjoy squeezing me out. Wonderful days and nights!

I am not quite as rigid hard after I orgasm, but it usually takes at least 3 to 5 minutes to start to soften. My DW likes me to leave it in and I do too.
It is mostly to do with frequency. When we go on a weekend away I find that, by the second or third day, I soften quite soon afterwards.

In another thread, one of the men stated that after he orgasms his wife would let him slide his penis back in before going soft." I found this to be different, as my penis becomes soft second after an orgasm (although I have never timed it).

I am curious from the men, how long after orgasm does your penis become soft enough it no longer can stay in or can have fun with. Does it stay semi erect for a while or does it go limp fast?

With continued stimulation, it can probably stay at 90% for quite a while. I haven't tried this much in years, and I am getting older. My wife doesn't usually care for me to 'thrust through' ejaculation these days. I can keep a semi or go soft if I keep manually simulating her after I ejaculate.

As to the original question, I stay hard for three or four minutes after ejaculation - maybe longer if I kept up gentle stimulation. We enjoy this part of sex and we both enjoy the sensation of being gradually expelled due to changing pressure.
