2/9/24 - when out to eat, appetizer, dessert, both?

Post by newwifenewlife »

When you go out to a restaurant above fast food, would you prefer getting an appetizer or dessert? Would you even get one? Both? What is your favorite app? Favorite dessert?

Depends. On special occasions (birthdays, Valentines Day, etc.) we sometimes get both an appetizer and dessert.

On non-special occasion days, I usually opt for an appetizer. Among my favorites are onion rings, southwest egg rolls, calamari, nachos and cheese, oysters (raw, fried, etc.),..., and many others. (Now, I am hungry...)

My favorite dessert is key lime pie.

We rarely get either. Most places give you so much food it's hard enough just to finish dinner. If we go out for dessert, then dessert is all we get.

It depends on the restaurant and their options. If we get anything other than the meal, it will usually be an appetizer.

If it's a restaurant that we know has a good key lime pie, we will get that instead of the app.

We don’t usually get either when out except for bdays or special occasions and then it’s usually a dessert.

DW and I have a weakness to split an appetizer of fried green tomatoes if the place does them right.... and of course it has to be compatible with our entrees... We aren't real high on fine dining although we do enjoy eating authentic (foreign) fare if it has been prepared by natives of that country....

If we aren't too full and the restaurant has a reputation for cooking their own fare (not frozen) we might order "a slice of cheesecake w/ fruit topping and 2 spoons" but I'd say most times we pass on the dessert or may bring it home to split later.

I am a cheapskate by nature and desert is generally the most overpriced non-alcoholic items on a restaurant's menu. I remember once a really good waiter at Olive Garden was trying to convince us to get a particular pie for desert by saying if Stevie Wonder tasted it, he'd think it was an Almond Joy candy bar. I didn't have the heart to tell him that the candy bar would cost about 1/5 as much as the pie, so he might not convince many people that way.

I don't usually get appetizers either unless its a business meal where someone with deep pockets is picking up the bill.
