For those who have used Defy

Post by tentsofpurple »

and don't mind sharing what was the approximate cost? I've been feeling off lately so I had my pcp do a hormone panel at my most recent physical. My total testosterone came back as 17 which from what little I've been able to find seems low for a 36 year old female. I know from dealing with low testosterone for my husband (we can't catch a break in the hormone department) that my pcp or even your average endocrinologist is not going to be a good source for treatment. I know several of you have used and seems to really like Defy but I'm trying to get a handle on what the cost will be before I go down that road.

They are good, much better than your typical pcp. However, they are not cheap! They don’t take insurance, so everything is out of pocket. Expect to spend $250 to $1000 initially for consultation and blood testing, depending on what you need. Each phone consultation will cost you after that as well, as will a “call-in fee” if you want to use your local pharmacy and they have to call in the prescriptions.

Are they worth it? Honestly, I have to say yes! Though it’s hard to swallow the cost, the benefits I’ve seen in my DW have been great! They have finally got her thyroid in balance (something no pcp could ever do), as well as her testosterone and estrogen. She feels so much better and handles the stresses of life better than she ever has (and we have been under an incredible amount of stress this year, more than ever in our lives!).

Yes, our bank account takes a big hit every time she needs a med refill or needs a consultation, but her health and mental sanity are worth it! :D

I don't use Defy, but rather a private practice hormonal specialist locally. The consults, quarterly, are $150.00 each, and the medicine (I use cream - less costly than when I used pellets) costs $107.00 per quarter if that gives you any point of comparison. Plus, whatever my co-pay is for the blood work required once per year.

All of mine - except for the blood work - is out of pocket.

And... echoing Dale, danged well worth it, every penny of it. DW's overall treatment, (she uses pellets) is more $$$ than that, but, repeating myself, danged well worth it. Boy, if you only knew.
