No particular order:
1) Companionship. Someone to warm my bed with me, someone to talk to, someone to share life with and grow old with.
2) Sex, intimacy, knowing and being known by someone on that intimate level.
3) Desire to have someone to serve, to protect, and to fight for.

Re: Reason for marriage
Mr. Wonderful is a running inside joke in our marriage. My goal is to be a completely different kind of Mr. Wonderful.

Re: Reason for marriage
1. Companionship
Ever since I was a little kid I wanted to have someone to love and live life with when I was an adult. A best friend for life, which I got in DW.
2. Sex
I wanted to experience the heights of sexual intimacy with the aforementioned best friend.

Re: Reason for marriage
Before I met my wife, I had no desire to marry. My work had placed me into the very worst of the world. I was completely burned out to all things involving love, relationships, sex, friendship. My plan was to enter a cloistered, religious training program before moving on to service. I had planned and accepted a life style which would mean I would never have a home except for my service mission. "Mission" means military mission, not religious.Mike smith wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 2:07 pm Before you met your spouse, what were your reasons for wanting to marry, your goals?
I met her and with-in a few minutes, I changed my mind. I wanted her. I wanted a real, permanent home. I wanted her faith and bright, happy outlook for the future.
My goals had been violent rearranged and re-formed. They became concrete with time.

I'd studied I Corinthians as a pre-teen. I knew that it was better to marry than to burn. I realized that I was the type of person who should marry.Mike smith wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 2:07 pm Before you met your spouse, what were your reasons for wanting to marry, your goals?
Then, as I grew older, I had the desire not only for sex, but also for someone to be close to, to share my life with, and to have children with.

Re: Reason for marriage
Before I met my DH, I didn’t think seriously enough about marriage to give it any thought. I mean I was focused on school, and making sure I made it to all of my classes, and my PT job. When he became my boyfriend, and things started to get serious, like “this is the one”, kind of serious, that’s when it started entering my thinking. I wanted to marry him because I wanted HIM. Maybe it’s selfish, but I wanted him all for me, and I wanted to give myself to only him.
Living my Happily Ever After with my amazing husband and our beautiful daughter.

Re: Reason for marriage
I never thought about it, to be honest with you.
When I was on my own, it felt quite natural.
Then I met my future wife and after a while I realized life seemed quite empty when she wasn’t around.
So after a while we got married. So now it feels natural to be married.

Re: Reason for marriage
1. Sex was number one. I definitely needed/wanted a sexual relationship and connection.
2. Companionship was also big. We were friends and just liked being with her.
3. Kids. While I didn’t have a deep desire for kids, I intellectually knew I wanted them at a later point in life. They started appearing rather soon (see point number one).
